Namalok Nature Reserve

TPC Ltd. has a large area of land covering 4,614 Hectares with a fenced perimeter of 30.7 km, which is unsuitable for cultivation and which has always been under bush. The area has been protected since 2004 against poaching, illegal tree felling and charcoal production, burning and overgrazing.

The Importance of NNR

Environment is degrading fast in the surrounding area, the closest similar protected wildlife area is Mkomazi, at 75km as the crow flies.

Ornithologists recognise NNR as a prime birdwatching area with 304 species recorded.

NNR could be the only fully protected area in Tanzania where visitors could photograph wildlife with the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.

NNR is a ground-breaking venture for Tanzania, requiring unprecedented private sector/TAWA collaboration.

TPC is a vast mono-cropping enterprise, with a degree of negative environmental impact. Preserving the diversity of NNR helps improving TPC’s environmental image.

NNR has become an import refuge and breeding ground for many species of fauna and flora that have disappeared from the surrounding areas
